Flood warnings have been issued for parts of the Grand River watershed as water levels continue to increase following several days of warm temperatures and rainfall.
According to the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA), rising river levels have triggered flood warnings for Grand Valley and St. Jacobs. Officials say melting snow combined with recent rain has caused significant runoff across the watershed.
Over the past few days, warmer temperatures have rapidly melted the remaining snowpack. This has led to ice jams and localized flooding in several areas along the Grand River system. Temperatures in the northern part of the watershed reached an average of about 8 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Forecasts suggest temperatures could climb into the mid-teens on Monday and Tuesday, which could accelerate snowmelt and increase water flow into rivers and streams.

The GRCA stated that river flows in Grand Valley exceeded flood thresholds on Sunday evening. Officials warned that conditions could continue affecting the area into Monday morning. They also noted that the risk of rapid water-level increases remains high due to potential ice jams along the river.
In St. Jacobs, rising river levels have already flooded some low-lying areas. Authorities say the situation could persist through Monday as water continues moving through the watershed.
These latest warnings follow earlier flood advisories issued for several nearby communities, including Ayr, New Hamburg, West Montrose, Brantford, Paris, Drayton, and parts of Haldimand County.
